Add CarPlay / Android Auto to your Gen3 MINI
Quote from miniadmin on March 19, 2024, 11:52 pmHave you ever wanted to add Apple CarPlay/Android Auto to your MINI? I really wanted to after test-driving a newer MINI.
At first, I was looking at buying and retrofitting a new head unit from a salvaged MINI on eBay, but this would likely cost over $1000 and need a lot of work to code it properly to my 2015 f56. While I continued to research, I discovered that there were interfaces that could take over the existing infotainment module and add newer features without additional coding. I found a device for around $300 on eBay and ordered it to experiment. Installing it was fairly straightforward, it had a premade harness and all I needed to do was remove the existing headhunt and plug the device in with the included harness in between the head unit and display screen. The whole process took about 2 hours as I took everything apart and wired in the device. As a bonus, it adds an HDMI input so I installed a miniature Nintendo in the glovebox to have a little fun while parked somewhere. Check out my photos and video and comment if you have any questions!
